Me and my Nanna :-) zzzzzzzz

This is me and my Nanna. Every night I go for snuggles with my Nanna for about 45 minutes or so while mom watches the news or works on the computer. I love my Nanna :-)

oops..... I love my Mom too :-)

Sunday April 20th, 2008 Lots of fun!!

Look! We went to the University of Toronto the other day and I'm so happy!! I explored and explored. There were still lots of kids there because school isn't quite finished yet for the year but I ran all over the place and even rolled around a wee bit. As you can see, I'm feeling fine and the pill was just a really bad scare. Mom and Nanna are so relieved.

Last Thursday April 17th, 2008

Here I am at the bingo!! I go every Thursday because my mom helps there and I love the ladies that go. They love me too and we always have a good time. Sometimes they really laugh at me because I can be a silly girl. You can see how I oversee everything :-)

My mom is about to have another heart attack...

I started to eat one of nanna's pills!!! Every night I go and snuggle up to my nanna for about 45 minutes or so before bedtime. Tonight mom got me and thought I was chewing on something but she couldn't see anything. She took me into nanna and it still looked like I had something in my mouth so she picked me up and oh boy.... she found a capsule!! She started to freak out and grabbed it and it spilled out on her hand and nanna's rug and then on nanna's hand. Mom looked in my mouth and it looked like nothing was in it. Now she doesn't know what to do because she doesn't think I got any in my mouth. She has seen me fuss with a capsule before and how long it takes to get something out of it when I was taking my own anti-biotics. The capsule gets gummy and it just sticks in my mouth. She ran into the other room fearing that there would be a bunch of capsules on the floor because she couldn't figure out where the heck I got one from. It turned out nanna had her pills ready for tomorrow in a little container called a dosset and somehow I managed to flip the lid on it. There were no other pills missing. Just one.

Anyway, mom called the emergency clinic at 980 Yonge Street in Toronto and they gave her the number of the PET POISON CONTROL at 1-800-548-2423. A very nice Vet came on the phone and mom told her what happened and that the pill was Celebrex for nanna's arthritis. The Vet asked mom to tell her the strength of the pill. They do give celebrex to doggies but it's a doggie type, not a human type. The vet was very kind and told mom that it sounded like I didn't get any of it (due to how much fell onto mom's hand and the carpet) but because I'm a small dog I needed to be watched for 36 HOURS! Yes.... 36 hours because Celebrex can lead to ulcers in my little tummy. So mom and nanna have to watch for me not eating, or throwing up, or drooling or any changes in the next 36 hours.

So everyone, please be so very careful of your medications. They can make us very, very sick. Always know what medications you have, and how many, and the strength. And keep the phone number for the PET POISON CONTROL at 1-800-548-2423 in your phone book for safe keeping. Needless to say, medications are going elsewhere in our home. I'm too sneaky and getting way too creative when it comes to getting nosey.

Here's my new friend :-)

Oh, today we had such fun. Mom and Nanna took me all over the place. Back and forth and back and forth. I rode in mom's scooter basket and then I rode on the floor of her scooter. That was lots of fun. We ended up down on Queen's Quay at Jarvis so mom could go grocery shopping. Nanna and I waited outside in the sun. I went exploring (on my leash) and finished it off with a dirty face. hehehe I met a nice man there who used to have a Bichon too. He played with me a bit. It was such a beautiful day out today and it's suppose to be tomorrow too so we are all going to run some errands then we are going to go over to the University of Toronto if we have the time. I can't wait, I love it there :-)

My new friend Tyson's mom sent us pictures of him so here he is...... he's so cute!

I'm back on track and met a new friend too!

Today mom and nanna took me to see Dr. D for a recheck. I'm finished 3 of my medicines and have only a couple of days of anti-biotics left to take. Dr. Drabant really checked me over and even took my temperature again just in case. *blush* They keep doing that!! He also showed mom my x-rays again and explained more about the infection I had. He said they (vets) are seeing more of this kind of thing this year. It was a long hard winter and now that the snow is all melting the garbage and stuff that has been there for this long winter underneath it all is making us sick at times. Anyway, I'm doing fine now and got the all clear :-) I saw Goran and Ligia at the Vet too! They are some of my favourite people :-) I'm partly named after Ligia and haven't seen her in a long time because she's not there at night and most of my appt's lately have been night ones.

After the Vet we went to get dinner and on the way to pick it up we went past Allen's Gardens and checked out the new dog run. We were very disappointed. We couldn't find the one for small dogs for one thing. There is suppose to be one for us smaller dogs and one for large dogs, but for another thing, we couldn't even get into it if we wanted to because there wasn't a way anyone with disabilities could get in there! How disappointing.

On the way home we went through the park and I met a new friend!! He is sooooo cute. His name is Tyson and he is a Havanese and is 12 weeks old. He's smart and a lot of fun to play with. He kept jumping on my head! We had lots of fun. His mom is nice too and she said she would email us a picture of Tyson to put on the blog. I hope she does.

Well.... it's been a long day and I'm a very tired little girl. I'm heading to bed and tomorrow I get to go to the seniors bingo and play with the ladies there! :-) Yippie, I really like it there. Then I get to spend the night with nanna as mom has a longgggggggg meeting she has to go to that she's the secretary for. This means she'll be hogging the computer again. :-)

I'm sick *sniffle*

Mom took me to the Dr. on Tuesday night. I was very happy to see Dr. D. :-) Mom took me because I was getting her up twice in the night to do my business and it was unusual. Dr. Dabrant took my temperature and listened to my little heart and checked my ears and pretty much everything else. He even did a urine sample and swabbed my little tuccus. How embarrassing!!! He found I have a slight temperature and gave me a shot of antibiotics and a prescription. Mom picked up my food and something she gives me for my coat and a few odds and ends and we went home.

The next day oh my.... my little tuccus was very, very itchy. Mom watched me itch it for so long that my fur got matted :-( and that morning I threw up. She called the Dr. again and back we went. Dr. D. wasn't in that night but we saw a really nice Dr., his name is Dr. Gotovac, and he checked my little tuccus too. Boy, that little thing is getting too much attention! Anyway, he gave mom a nice medicine to rub on it and make the itch go away and told mom to bring a poop sample the next day. When we got home I layed around.

The next day... Thursday mom took me to the ladies bingo again (and at the same time wash my pink bed), I love the ladies at the bingo and they love me. I seemed kind of slow though and not too playful when all of a sudden I threw up!! Yuck... disgusting stuff. When we got home, I threw up on pretty pink bed..... a little while later, in my bed in mom's bedroom I woofed it up again... oh so gross. I threw up 3 times in less than 5 hrs. Mom called the Dr. again!! Off we went. Dr. D. was still away so now I saw Dr. Salama and he was very worried about me. My temperature had gone away but I was throwing up too much and I hadn't even eaten that day. He checked every inch of me over. Goran took me for a little walk and I did my business so they could check that too. My fever finally broke but all this tossing my cookies was not normal and they needed to find the reason. So... I was x-rayed twice (two views), and they took blood from me too. I also got some fluids in me so I didn't dehydrate. I was a very good girl and didn't cry or try to get away. The Dr. showed my mom and nanna what was wrong. I had an infection in my little tummy. They all think I got it from a park I went to last Sunday. I've never been there before and must have picked something up from there. I went home with 4 new medicines and mom fainted at the bill... hehehehhe She says I'm worth it though. The Dr. told mom that if I throw up once more I have to come back, have something called a barium x-ray and then an I.V. put in and I have to stay there!!

Friday I was still pretty sick but didn't throw up any more. Thankfully. I felt so bad that I just layed on the sofa most the day. There were workmen in the hall, they are laying a new floor outside our apt. and even when they hit the door accidently a couple of times and they talked, I did nothing. I just layed there. Normally I bark like mad when I even hear someone quietly walking down the hall. I couldn't care less that day though.

Luckily I've been home since and all the medicine has been helping me immensley. Every day one of the Dr's. phones my mom to check on me and see how I'm doing. She gives them a progress report.

Today is the following Tuesday evening and I'm finally finished most of my medications. I only have the antibiotic to take for a couple more days. Tomorrow we go out again, this time back to see Dr. D. I'm doing much, much better. I'm playing and eating and drinking. Even our neighbours say my eyes are brighter and I'm more myself. I'm glad, I didn't like being so sick.

I'mmmmmmm back!!! April 8th, 2008

My mom is so bad. She doesn't let me at the computer much. She's always hoggin it. So, I'm going to play catch up here a bit. This winter I wasn't out much, way too much snow for little me and for my mom. Her scooter won't go through it and it keeps her homebound a lot. Mom says naughty words when it snows. She says she hasn't seen this much snow since she can remember. Bad snow! So since we didn't get out much I didn't have much to write about.

There were a few things though. I went through my first heat! I'm a lady now! :-) That was around Christmas time. What a gift eh? heheheheh It was quite the experience for mom and nanna too.

Oh, another thing, I had an awful experience at the groomer late last year too. She shaved me!!! Mom had a meltdown on her. Mom told her I had a couple of mats of hair inside my back legs cause I didn't like her brushing me there while I was in heat so instead of taking the mats out, she shaved me!! Everywhere!! Mom cried. Mom had a meltdown finally when the lady kept telling her it was fine. Mom heard that once too many times and she told the groomer "how about if I go get your shears and shave your head and tell me it's fine"?. The lady knew mom meant business and she backed off. It wasn't a good thing. I wouldn't even look at my mom until late that night and I cried for a couple of days and didn't eat either. I walked around with my tail between my legs for a couple of days too :-( It was traumatic and now mom says she will groom me herself and she bought all the stuff and is learning on my Auntie Sheri's doggie named Ebony. Ebby needed a clipping and Auntie Sheri let mom do it so she got some experience. Mom has since learned that you can trim a Bichon just with proper shears so she thinks she will try that.

I'm over that though thankfully and now my hair is all finally grown back too! It's not great yet because the shears that were used must have been dull because I have split ends everywhere and it's still uneven but I'm nice and furry again and mom is clipping bits and pieces here and there.

I've discovered cheese!!! mmmmmm good. My favourites are Swiss and Havarti. Oh.. and I've discovered broccoli too! Mom won't give me much but she dropped a piece one day on the floor and I snatched it before she could pick it up. Bow wow! It's great! No wonder mom eats it all the time.

Spring has finally sprung and mom let me out to really play on the grounds the other day. Holy cow I was in my glory. I ran and ran and ran, and played, and picked up sticks and rolled around.... heheheh Got my coat all dirty but that's ok, I had a really great time. And we went past Allen Gardens the other day and the City has made a whole new doggie section there! You should see it. Runs for big doggies and another one for small doggies like me. And it's all fenced in too so it's safe.

I gotta get mom to take some pictures. She bought me a new bed, 2 actually. I have a lovely pink one in the livingroom with a matching blankie and toy and a nice plump black and white one for the bedroom which I love too. And I have a new pretty harness as well. I outgrew my old one.

Tonight I go to see my favourite people. Dr. Drabant and Ligia at the Riverdale Animal Hospital. Mom and Nanna are taking me. Time for a check up and to start getting my flea stuff again. Mom says I've reverted to childhood because since I had my 1st birthday (Easter Sunday) I don't seem to be able to hold it through the night and I'm up at around 2 or 2:30 am and then again around 4:30 ish to do peepee. Friends have told her this will happen, I'm still a puppy and I'll still revert back to things I used to do. They say this will pass but mom is getting cranky from lack of sleep and just to be on the safe side she will have me checked out. I don't mind though, I get to see Dr. D and Ligia :-) and Goran too!!

Later this week mom might be getting a new scooter too! Things are really picking up around here. Mom has to be very picky about what one she gets so I can still motor around with her in the basket :-) I like that. Mom also accepted a donated chest freezer for her program and now has to start baking and cooking to fill it full of good stuff for the seniors. I wonder if I'll get any leftovers?? Nah... probably not, mom is picky about what I eat too. She says she now needs to be on the hunt for volunteers :-)

This Thursday, like every Thursday, I get to go to the ladies bingo! They love me there too. I play with them while they play bingo and mom calls the numbers for them a lot. I love going to bingo and maybe mom can take pictures of that too! I'll bug her some. :-) Talk to you all later.....
